Junior Handling

Beth

Beth started to compete in Junior Handling after the arrival of Burta in 2014. The two of them also had much initial success in the breed ring, taking multiple Best of Breeds and Group Placings at Open Shows and several high placings at various Championship Shows.

Since then Beth has been given the opportunity to handle a number of different dogs. These include a Golden Retriever UK Champion, Jonty, and a Spanish Water Dog Champion of Spain and World Champion, Marcial de Aronagua. In 2015 Beth handled Jonty to take 2nd place in the Junior Handling Association Semi-Final at National Gundog. Beth then handled Marcial (who is the grandfather of Otto, Indi and Thema) to victory in the Junior Handling at the National Dog Show of Malaga in November 2017. However, Beth’s greatest success to date has to be at last year’s World Dog Show in Amsterdam with Otto, where on the second day she was shortlisted in the final nine out of over 90 children and young people in the aged 10 to 18 Junior Handling competition.

Beth has several times qualified for the Young Kennel Club Handling Finals held at Crufts, coming fourth in 2016 with Jonty, and second in 2018 with Otto. The Beth and Otto combo then won Best of Breed, and secured fourth place overall in the Handling, at the Leuven International Dog Show in Belgium in October 2018. Beth also won the aged 6 to 11 years Handling at the Spanish Water Dog Club Open Show in both 2016 and 2017, on both occasions handling Burta.

In 2016 Beth decided to try handling some new breeds. She asked to borrow Skye (a Bernese Mountain Dog) to show at the National Working & Pastoral Breeds Championship Show. Despite this being the first time Beth and Skye had ever entered the ring together, they took 1st place in the Junior Handling Association age 6 to 11 Semi-Final, qualifying them for the 2016 JHA final! Beth also took 4th place in the 2016 Utility Breeds Semi-Final with Xania (a Eurasier), being the first handler to be placed with this breed at the semis.

In 2017 Beth qualified for the JHA Final for the second year running by winning the UK Toy 6 to 11 years’ Semi-Final with a Griffon Bruxellois, Teddy, who like Skye she borrowed for the occasion. During 2017 Beth also had success showing a Lagotto Romagnolo, Taddeo, with whom she achieved a number of Best Puppy Awards and one Best Dog Award at Championship Shows.

These are Beth’s key domestic results to date in major handling competitions.

Charlotte

Charlotte has been competing in match nights at local dog clubs since she was very young. She had some success from the start, taking several Best Junior Handler Awards. She has since been awarded Junior Handler of the Year at Yew Tree Canine Society in both 2016 and 2019, and Junior Handler of the Year in 2018 at both Barking Mad and Mansfield & District Canine Society.

Charlotte’s age stopped her from competing  at Championship or Open shows until she turned 6 on 2 February 2017. However, she soon  started following in Beth’s footsteps. At Charlotte’s first Junior Handling Association class only 3 days after her 6th birthday, Charlotte won first place out of 5 youngsters in age 6 to 11 class at Merseyside Gundog Club. She has since taken multiple wins and high placings in both junior handling and breed classes at Championship and Open Shows.

Charlotte has several times qualified for the JHA Semi-Finals, coming third in the 2019 Semi-Final at National Gundog with Burta. She has also several times qualified for the final of the Young Kennel Club age 6 to 11 handling competition at Crufts, her best result to date being in 2018 with Ria when she was placed seventh in the final. For the last two years running, Charlotte has also won the age 6 to 11 handling at the UK Spanish Water Dog Club Open Show, in 2018 with Ria and in 2019 with Burta.

Charlotte has an exciting year ahead of her. She has qualified for the JHA Semi-Finals and competed in the YKC final at Crufts. She has also already qualified for the YKC final at Crufts 2021.

These are Charlotte’s key domestic results to date in major handling competitions.

Charlotte has also competed in handling competitions overseas. In February 2018, she won the Junior Handling with Ria at the Monographica of the Spanish SWD breed club, the UCPDAE in Granada, Spain. Charlotte’s greatest achievement to date came though in Switzerland in November 2018 when she won Best in Show 3 Junior Handling at the International Dog Show of Geneva, handling Thema.
